We realized we’d found a destination in Lithuania that families still know too little about. Here we found a modern museum, engaging educational activities, incredible entertainment, delicious food, and a beautifully maintained city. While planning trips around Lithuania, we always look for places that offer more than just one or two attractions. We want everything in one spot – entertainment, pools, educational activities, good food, and great infrastructure. Tauragė with kids is exactly that kind of destination. In just a few days, we visited a modern museum, joined one of the most interesting educational experiences we’ve tried in Lithuania, enjoyed water activities, found great places to eat, and stayed at a hotel that exceeded our expectations. Most importantly, almost every spot was perfectly adapted for families, so our kids couldn’t believe we hadn’t visited before.
Tauragė with kids – what to do and see with children
Tauragė Region museum Santaka
The first place we visited in Tauragė was the Tauragė Region museum Santaka. The museum is housed in Tauragė Castle and completely shattered the stereotype that museums are boring for kids. Here, everything is presented so children want to touch, explore, ask questions, and make their own discoveries. We were especially impressed by the Archaeology Tower, where history feels much closer and more understandable for children. You can not only view exhibits, but also feel how fun it is to learn about the past.
Kids especially loved the unique sandbox, where archaeology becomes a game – they can search, discover, and feel like real explorers. Another unexpected highlight was the nature exhibit, which captivated not only the kids but also us, letting us experience the local nature in an engaging, vivid way. This was one of those museums where the kids didn’t ask, “When are we going home?” – instead, they wanted to stay longer.

Green Farm in Tauragė
A must-visit place for families in Tauragė is Green Farm. This was one of the tastiest and most interesting educational experiences we’ve had with kids anywhere in Lithuania. Here, children don’t just listen. They do everything themselves: see how flour is made from grain, knead dough, and prepare ingredients. Also bake pizzas and khachapuri, and finally taste what they created. We loved that the workshop took place in a warm, family-like setting. Jokūbas, who led the session, knows how to keep kids engaged and active the whole time. Green Farm nurtures ecological farming, bread-baking traditions, and pasta-making, while allowing visitors to understand the journey of food from grain to plate.

Tauragė swimming pool
After the museum, Green Farm, and exploring the city, Tauragė Swimming Pool was the perfect place to relax. Whenever we travel with kids, we always visit local pools, because our children love swimming. Believe us—Tauragė’s pool truly surprised us, even though we’ve tried most pools in Lithuanian cities. Incredibly, such a small city has a pool that even Vilnius and other big cities could envy. Here you’ll find 25-meter swimming lanes, a relaxation zone, a hot tub, massage loungers, an air massage wall, three saunas, and a separate pool for kids. We loved the waterfall feature and the warm water and environment. The biggest attraction for our kids was, of course, the water slide – not a small city pool slide, but the kind you’d expect in big water parks. Our kids couldn’t stop sliding and enjoying the water fun.
For younger children, there’s a separate area for safe splashing, and parents can relax in the nearby hot tub after a busy day.
We were especially surprised by the pool’s very friendly prices. It’s hard to believe you can visit such a modern and excellent pool for such a low cost.
Where to stay in Tauragė
If you plan to spend more than a day in Tauragė, we highly recommend Tauragė Hotel. For us, Tauragė Hotel is one of the friendliest and most modern hotels in Lithuania – a discovery from last year. This hotel is an incredible place and one of the best surprises we’ve found while traveling in Lithuania. Exceptionally modern, cozy, and perfectly located in the heart of Tauragė, it has an amazing atmosphere. It’s hard to explain why, but you always want to come back. From the moment you enter, the wonderful staff makes you feel at home – service and atmosphere on par with the best international hotels.
When traveling with kids, location matters, and here, everything is within easy reach. Rooms are stylish, clean, and comfortable, with super-comfy beds, air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, a workspace, water, coffee, and tea. Another big plus is the free parking lot. We also loved the breakfast, which was truly exceptional: not your standard hotel breakfast, but high-quality, delicious, and well thought out. Breakfast delicacies included homemade tiramisu, baked catfish, panna cotta, and the best-tasting olives. The restaurant has a small kids’ corner, and there’s a terrace next to the hotel where you can watch your children play in the city square. Where to eat in Tauragė: a one-of-a-kind restaurant in Lithuania – Castle Lounge
If we had to name one place in Tauragė that surprised us most with its concept, it would be Castle Lounge. It’s not just a restaurant – it’s a space where quality food, a cozy atmosphere, and even a cinema come together. Located in the city center, in the historic Centennial Building, Castle Lounge has become a place you’ll want to return to – not just for dinner, but for an entire evening with the family.
Well-known chef Tomas Ragauskas leads the kitchen, so the team uses quality ingredients, carefully prepares each dish, and pays close attention to detail. They make everything fresh on-site – no pre-packaged food here. The food is simply amazing. We judge a restaurant in part by whether the kids’ favorite chicken nuggets are made from real chicken fillet, not minced meat. Here, they were real fillet and simply melted in the mouth. The menu is excellent – salmon tartare, mackerel rolls, zander, roasted cauliflower, and more. Surprising, but very tasty combinations. You’d never expect such a restaurant with this menu outside the capital.
The cinema experience
However, the biggest surprise for us was the cozy lounge-style cinema. It’s not every day you find a restaurant where you can head straight to the movie theater after dinner and watch the latest animated film with your kids. Castle Lounge’s cinema always has movies for both kids and adults. You can even buy popcorn and snacks. For families, it’s extremely convenient – no need to drive or plan another activity. While the kids watch a movie, you can enjoy dinner or meet friends. The cinema is cozy, comfortable, and kid-friendly. Dinner and evening fun are all in one place. Plus, you can rent the cinema for birthdays or family events, so it’s a great option for anyone looking for something special.
