Sometimes, the best getaway does not require a luxury hotel or endless entertainment. All you need is a lake, a forest, silence, and a place to escape everyday life. Our dome stay by the lake at Asalnai Campsite was exactly that. It was a true escape, surrounded by nature and far from noise and busy schedules. Asalnai Campsite is a unique place in Lithuania where nature and comfort come together. Instead of city sounds, you wake up to the forest and the peaceful surroundings of Lake Asalnai. We are only sorry that we discovered this place this year. It has a special atmosphere, and we will certainly return.

Dome stay by the lake
Our dome stay by the lake at Asalnai Campsite was an unforgettable experience. Located in Puziniškis Village, Ignalina District, the campsite sits on the shore of Lake Asalnai, in the heart of Aukštaitija National Park. The surrounding forests, lakes, and authentic Aukštaitija landscape make this part of Lithuania worth visiting again and again. We can confidently say that Asalnai Campsite is one of the most beautiful places to stay in nature in Lithuania.
We chose the dome accommodation, and it made this trip much more than an ordinary camping weekend. The dome allowed us to enjoy nature without giving up comfort. We did not need to set up a tent or sleep on a camping mat. Instead, we could relax and enjoy what we came for: peace, quiet, and nature.
The dome windows offer beautiful views of the forest and lake. Nature feels incredibly close, while you still have a cozy private space to relax. Inside, you will find a double bed with bedding. A mattress is also provided for children. The dome has a small stove, blankets, and pillows.
For us, this is the biggest advantage of staying in a dome. You can enjoy the atmosphere of camping in nature without giving up comfort.
Asalnai Campsite – ideal place to relax in nature
Although the dome provides extra comfort, Asalnai Campsite still preserves the authentic camping atmosphere. There is no Wi-Fi, shower, or charging station. However, this feels more like an advantage than a disadvantage. You come here to disconnect from screens and slow down.
The campsite still provides the essential facilities for a comfortable stay. There are fire pits with outdoor furniture, gazebos, a shared covered kitchen, outdoor toilets, and washing areas. Everything is clean and well maintained. The toilets have toilet paper, and outdoor sinks nearby. The shared kitchen has a gas stove, dishes, pots, pans, grills, skewers, and cutlery. Therefore, you do not need to bring all your camping equipment from home.
If you prefer traditional camping, you can stay in your own tent. You can also bring hammocks and other camping equipment. Well-behaved pets are welcome too.
One of our favorite features of Asalnai Campsite is the choice of comfort level. You can bring your own tent and enjoy classic camping. Alternatively, you can stay in a dome and enjoy a much more comfortable night in nature.
What to do at Asalnai Campsite
Asalnai Campsite is ideal for those who want to relax by the lake and slow down. However, there are also plenty of activities for those looking for a more active getaway. The best part is that you can combine activities with complete relaxation. One day, you can go hiking or paddleboarding. The next day, you can simply stay by the lake.
You can rent paddleboards, boats, bicycles, and kayaks at the campsite. You can also book a sauna or hot tub. The campsite organizes hiking, cycling, and paddleboarding tours. Different activities can also be combined during your stay.
For families with children, the lake and surrounding nature are among the biggest advantages. Swimming, playing by the water, walking, outdoor dinners, and evenings around the campfire create simple holiday moments that families often value most. Children can enjoy swings and a sandbox. If you wonder whether they will have enough to do, we can assure you they will. Our children are very active and love different activities. However, time simply flew by here. They ran around, played, went boating, jumped into the water, and collected berries and mushrooms. Later, we grilled sausages and marshmallows over the campfire. Before we knew it, night had arrived.
For even more relaxation, you can rent a sauna at Asalnų Campsite. This is more than an ordinary sauna experience. Campsite host Eglė also offers special sauna programs featuring traditional sauna whisks and natural plants.
If you have been dreaming of camping with children but want a bit more comfort, Asalnai Campsite is an ideal choice. Likewise, if you want to disconnect from everyday life and the internet, this is a wonderful place to visit. Spend some time surrounded by nature, peace, and quiet. We will certainly return and can wholeheartedly recommend Asalnai Campsite to other families.
