Ruta de la Tapa in Tenerife: 35 restaurants in San Miguel de Abona and special dishes for just 5 euros

This autumn, Tenerife welcomes one of its most delicious events: Ruta de la Tapa. From October 16 to November 7, 2026, 35 restaurants, bars, and cafés across the municipality of San Miguel de Abona will invite visitors to try specially created dishes. Best of all, a tapa served with a drink will cost no more than 5 euros.

Ruta de la Tapa in Tenerife: special dishes for just 5 euros. This is not a one-day food festival. Instead, it is a gastronomic route lasting more than three weeks. It allows visitors to explore different parts of southern Tenerife while sampling local culinary creations at very affordable prices.

15-year tradition in San Miguel de Abona

In 2026, Saborea San Miguel de Abona celebrates its 15th edition. According to the organisers, the event has grown over the past fifteen years into more than a food celebration. It also showcases local identity, traditions, restaurants, producers, and regional products. Furthermore, the event encourages visitors to discover different areas of San Miguel de Abona and support local businesses.

And that is exactly what we love about it. For example, you can create your own culinary tour of San Miguel de Abona in a single evening. First, sample a creative take on Canarian cuisine at one restaurant. Then, try seafood at another. Finally, finish with a modern dish or something inspired by international cuisine.

What can you try for 5 euros?

A look at this year’s menu reveals that tapa means much more than a few olives or a small sandwich. Instead, participating restaurants have created a diverse selection of miniature dishes. These range from traditional Canarian flavours to ceviche, paella, Indian-inspired bites, and desserts.

Seafood lovers will also have plenty of options. For instance, you can try salmon tartare served on crispy rice. Another dish combines mussels, squid, prawns, and octopus in a seafood lasagne. Meanwhile, La Paellita del Atlántico offers a distinctly Tenerife-inspired option made with rice, fish, and seafood.

In addition, Ruta de la Tapa features tapas inspired by other cuisines. Options include a bao bun with Iberian pork, Indian appetisers, and creative interpretations of Italian and Mexican dishes.

You can also discover some unexpected flavour combinations. For example, one restaurant serves squid ink ravioli with wreckfish, basil pesto, and cherry tomatoes. Another offers a beef and blue cheese bite topped with a quail egg.

Moreover, the route includes not only lunch and dinner spots but also bakeries and cafés. As a result, you can even plan a sweet stop along the way.

Therefore, you do not have to treat Ruta de la Tapa as just a dinner outing. Instead, visit several participating venues at different times of day and discover a wider variety of local food.

Each tapa costs no more than €5

One of the biggest advantages of this event is its affordability. For just €5 or less, you can enjoy a tapa and a glass of a drink, usually wine. Consequently, Ruta de la Tapa is an excellent opportunity to try several restaurants instead of choosing just one. For the price of a regular dinner, you can plan a multi-stop food tour and sample dishes from very different cuisines.

However, keep in mind that each restaurant serves its tapas on specific days and at set times. To plan your route more easily, visit the official Ruta de la Tapa website. There, you can filter participating venues by day and area. You can also select places that are open at your preferred time.

Taste the tapas and vote for your favourite

Ruta de la Tapa also includes a fun challenge for visitors. Between October 16 and November 7, you must visit at least five participating venues, sample their tapas, and collect a special stamp in the event leaflet.

Once you have collected the required stamps, you can enter a prize draw. Prizes include dinners, hotel stays, and other gifts. Additionally, visitors can vote for their favourite tapas by marking up to five choices in their leaflet.

Therefore, there is even more reason to explore several restaurants rather than stopping at just one.

Saborea San Miguel de Abona: more than a tapas route

Ruta de la Tapa is just one part of the wider Saborea San Miguel de Abona 2026 gastronomic programme. From October 9 to November 14, various locations across the municipality will host culinary workshops and other food-related events. These activities offer an even deeper introduction to Canarian cuisine and local products.

According to the official programme, activities include workshops celebrating Canarian flavours, an exclusive Gastrosentidos dining experience, low-temperature and vacuum-cooking workshops, wine tastings, and coffee and crêpe tastings. However, some activities require advance registration, and places are limited.

There are also events for families with children. On October 26, La Mesa Mágica will offer a family-friendly experience focused on learning, cooking, and sharing food. Meanwhile, the 10th Junior Chef Club workshop for young cooking enthusiasts will take place on November 7. On the same day, the town of San Miguel will host the large-scale Tapas y Vinos tasting event. Finally, the programme will conclude on November 14 with an event organised by the Canary Islands Wine Brotherhood.

As you can see, Saborea San Miguel de Abona offers much more than affordable restaurant dishes. Instead, it is a month-long gastronomic celebration where visitors can discover local cuisine, wines, regional products, and even try cooking for themselves.

Where does Ruta de la Tapa take place?

The 2026 route covers a large part of the municipality of San Miguel de Abona. Participating venues are located in the following areas:

  • San Miguel and El Roque
  • Llano del Camello
  • Las Chafiras and CC La Gran Manzana
  • Guargacho
  • Golf del Sur
  • Amarilla Golf

The event is particularly convenient for tourists staying in southern Tenerife. Many participating restaurants are located in Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf. Nevertheless, if you want a more authentic local experience, it is worth heading further inland to the town of San Miguel itself.

If you are visiting Tenerife in late October or early November, be sure to add this event to your plans. After all, Ruta de la Tapa is an easy and affordable way to enjoy delicious food while discovering local restaurants and flavours you might otherwise miss during a typical holiday.
