Have you ever taken a tour where your main companions are horses? We discovered this special experience in Žasliai. The Žasliai Horses offer a unique tour. Not only do you meet horses and adorable ponies, but you also explore one of Lithuania’s most beautiful towns. This is one of those places and experiences that surprise with its simplicity, coziness, and uniqueness.
Unique tour in one of Lithuania’s most beautiful towns: Žasliai horses surprised our whole family. If you are looking for a trip that is both fun and a chance to learn about animals, the Žasliai Horses should be on your family’s itinerary. Here, you will not find a traditional stable or just a short horse ride. Instead, you get a full tour – a ride in a horse-drawn carriage along a scenic route through Žasliai, a meeting with friendly ponies, and stories about the world of horses. This kind of experience delights not only children but also adults.

Unique tour and introduction to Žasliai
As soon as we arrived, we set off for a carriage ride around the town. Not just any ride, but a comfortable carriage pulled by Maja the horse. During the tour, we enjoyed the surroundings and listened to interesting stories about Žasliai’s history. Žasliai was first mentioned in historical sources back in 1457 – so, it is one of Lithuania’s oldest towns. Before World War II, Žasliai was a significant trading center with a large Jewish community. Today, you can still see the old town plan and Jewish heritage sites. In 1972, some scenes from the legendary Lithuanian film “Tadas Blinda” were filmed here. You will learn many other fascinating facts, too.
Maja the horse and her owner Vaclovas immediately created a cozy atmosphere. We were amazed by Maja’s calmness as she pulled us through the streets – she was unfazed by passing cars or barking dogs. She quietly did her job while her owner shared stories about Žasliai, the town he grew up in.
For the kids, it was not just a fun carriage ride but a real adventure.
Meeting the horses and ponies
After the tour, we met the friendly horses and ponies. The kids could see them up close and learn about their lives and daily care. We petted and fed the ponies, who enjoyed spending time with us. The mischievous ponies not only loved being petted, but also tried to untie our shoes or nibble on a sleeve.
The owners, Asta and Vaclovas, truly love their horses. In fact, they say they could talk about them for hours. During our visit, we learned the difference between ponies and regular horses, as well as how a bond forms between a person and a horse. In addition, we heard many fascinating historical facts. What’s more, Asta, the owner, really knows how to sense what interests children and other visitors. For example, we were curious about how the farm’s ponies and horses arrived, their love stories, and much more.
Over a cozy chat, we drank oat tea and enjoyed treats. Time flew by, and we did not want to leave…
A small museum and fascinating stories
Another part of the tour was a visit to the Horse Museum. Here, you see items related to horses – figurines, paintings, and other souvenirs collected by the owners. If you have a horse figurine at home without a place, it will be gladly accepted and join the museum’s collection.
The owner also showed us another display – an equally interesting collection of old tools and “treasures” from the old homestead.
Who would we recommend this place to?
The Žasliai Horses are perfect for families or groups of friends seeking interesting activities and trips. This is a place where you do not need to rush – you can simply enjoy the outdoors, spend time with animals, and discover one of Lithuania’s most beautiful towns from a new perspective.
This unique tour and educational activity is also great for birthday parties or children’s education. If your kids love animals, are interested in horses, or you want to give them a new experience, this place will not disappoint.
We would love to come back in winter – Maja can pull a sleigh, not just a carriage. We can already imagine how much fun that would be.
