What to see in Klaipėda with kids – Lithuanian Sea Museum, Dolphinarium, and Baltic Sea animal rehabilitation center

When planning a visit to Klaipėda, it’s almost impossible not to think of one of the most popular and impressive attractions in Lithuania the Lithuanian Sea Museum and Dolphinarium. However, keep in mind that there’s much more to see than just the dolphin show. We always recommend setting aside at least half a day, as it takes time to explore all the museum’s exhibits, aquariums, and outdoor spaces. Our kids are always most impressed by the chance to see Baltic and world sea animals up close. They are seals, penguins, colorful fish, and, of course, dolphins.

But did you know there’s also the modern Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Center behind the Dolphinarium? Here, you can learn about seal rescue stories, see how they are treated and prepared for release, and discover the importance of protecting marine life. Before you go, check dolphin show times and tickets in advance, especially during the summer. By the way, you can visit the Sea Museum for free on the last Sunday of every month.

Top places to visit with kids in Klaipėda

Klaipėda swimming pool

We love swimming pools and always visit them when traveling. For us, it’s important that a pool or SPA complex is adapted for children. That’s why Klaipėda Swimming Pool is one of our favorites. There’s a great pool for little ones, with a depth of just 40 cm and a water temperature of +36°C perfect even for babies. In addition, on weekends, the pool becomes even more family-friendly. Every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 3 pm, the main pool’s depth is changed from 1.2 m to just 70 cm, so swimming with kids is even more fun.

Every weekend and holiday, everyone can try the Challenge Track a fun attraction for the whole family. You can read our full review in the article Klaipėda swimming pool – fun for the whole family.

Klaipėda Castle Museum and the new Castle Tower

One of the most interesting places to visit in Klaipėda with kids is the Castle Museum and the newly opened Castle Tower. In the museum, children can not only see the history of old Klaipėda, but also experience it through modern exhibits, technology, interactive terminals, projections, holograms, and sound zones. This isn’t a “silent museum” where kids get bored here, history is presented in a way that’s easy for even the youngest travelers to understand. The new Castle Tower is also one of this summer’s hottest news stories on the coast. It’s impressive not only for its architecture, but also for the chance to see Klaipėda from a whole new perspective. Read more about the new tower in our article, Newly opened and impressive Klaipėda Castle Tower.

Klaipėda Sculpture Park

Another spot that really surprised us is the Klaipėda Sculpture Park. It’s a great place if you want to spend time outdoors and discover something interesting. In spring 2026, 25 sculptures “came to life” with QR codes scan them to listen to audio stories in Lithuanian or English. The sculptures tell about their symbolism, creators, and Klaipėda’s history. A simple walk becomes an open-air lesson in art, history, and city culture. Our kids also loved the playground here, making this spot perfect for families. Parents can enjoy art and peace, while kids explore, listen, and play.

Talking sculptures in the city

Klaipėda also has a unique project where city sculptures “speak” and share their stories and legends.

To listen, you just need to scan the QR code by the sculpture with your phone. Our kids love searching for these sculptures and unlocking their stories.

You can find the map of all the sculptures on the Klaipėda Tourism Information website.

Sense Art Center in Klaipėda

The Sense Art Center in Klaipėda offers award-winning virtual reality experiences: “Angelų takais” (Angel Trails) and “Pasaulių sutvėrimas” (Creation of Worlds). This new space features 300° projections that fill your entire field of vision, making you feel part of the visuals. The video and sound installations create a magical atmosphere that leaves a strong impression on children.

Gintarinė krantinė education center

Gintarinė krantinė (Amber Quay) education and excursion center creates and leads themed tours and educational activities for both children and adults. The center’s main focus is live storytelling, engaging experiences, and exploring the history of Klaipėda. We participated in the “From Blacksmith to Baker: Klaipėda’s Craftsmen” activity, learning about local crafts, identifying guild symbols, and even trying our hand as craftsmen.

Best spots in central Klaipėda by the Danė river

Danės Square playground and Skate park

Danės Square is one of the most popular places in Klaipėda. In the center, you’ll find an oasis for relaxation and discovery, and at the end of the square, an area for active fun. Here, you can enjoy the cozy environment, learn about history from the timeline on the main street, and let kids play on the playgrounds.

Danė Square has a skateboard, bike, and scooter track (helmets and pads required), a trampoline playground for little ones, and a nearby café. It makes it easy to watch your kids play. In summer, fountains put on beautiful shows with melodies.

Ship Sūduvis

If your kids are interested in ships, technology, or military history, be sure to visit the warship Sūduvis. This is one of those places in Klaipėda where you can not only see history but also experience it up close. The former warship is now a floating museum, where visitors can walk on real ship decks, explore the crew’s work and living areas, the captain’s bridge, and various navigation and military equipment.

For children, the biggest highlight is the chance to enter the spaces where sailors once worked and, even for a moment, feel like real crew members. Meanwhile, parents have a great opportunity to learn about the history of Lithuania’s navy. Also, they discover fascinating facts about the ship’s service in the Baltic Sea. Sūduvis is docked right in the heart of Klaipėda, next to the Danė quay. It is very convenient to visit together with the Old Town, the Castle Museum, or take a stroll along the riverfront.

Hand-turned bridge – the only one in Lithuania

This is a unique piece of engineering heritage and a valuable historical site. The hand-operated metal bridge over the castle canal was built in 1855. It is the only mechanism of its kind in Lithuania. Two people turn the bridge so that ships can pass through the channel into the former Klaipėda castle moat. The site is marked with a maritime heritage sign, which identifies objects related to maritime history. For example, buildings, former building sites, quays, paths, ships, and more.

For our son Motiejus, trying to turn the bridge was a unique experience that left a big impression.

Next to the bridge, you’ll find a schedule showing when the bridge is turned and when it’s open for crossing.

Meridianas Sailing Ship – a symbol of the city

One of the most famous symbols of Klaipėda is the tall ship Meridianas. It is definitely worth seeing while walking in the city center. Moored on the Danė River, this historic sailing ship stands out with its impressive masts. It reminds visitors of the times when the sea was an essential part of Klaipėda’s life. Kids are always fascinated to see a real ship up close, while for parents, it’s a great place to pause, enjoy the riverfront, and take beautiful family photos. Meridianas has long been an iconic postcard image of Klaipėda, so when you visit the city, you simply can’t miss it. You can even admire the ship while visiting the Danė Square playground.

This modern campground offers guest cabins, tent sites, and RV spots. You’ll also find excellent infrastructure, children’s playgrounds, swings for adults, and outdoor tennis and basketball courts.

Mercure Klaipėda City Hotel

Mercure Klaipėda City is truly one of the best choices for a family holiday by the sea. As part of an international hotel chain, it guarantees top-quality service.

First of all, the hotel is located right in the city center, in a beautiful historic building. Even so, you can easily reach the Old Town and the ferry to the Sea Museum with kids in just fifteen minutes. In addition, you never have to worry about parking, since the hotel offers a spacious and private parking lot. The hotel rooms are both stylish and modern.

What’s more, as soon as you step through the hotel doors, you immediately notice the attention to children. While completing check-in, kids receive complimentary mini plush toys. It is a thoughtful detail that always makes us smile and delights little guests. Another big plus for us is the children’s corner in the restaurant. You can enjoy a peaceful dinner or breakfast while your kids play nearby. It’s also great that there’s a kids’ menu, and since breakfast is prepared à la carte, you can order exactly what your children love.

Where to eat well in Klaipėda

Švyturys BHouse

In summer, we love sitting on terraces and enjoying good food. While traveling, we always look for food markets or popular restaurants that are kid-friendly. At first, it may seem that a brewery restaurant is not a place for families. However, after visiting, we can confidently say this is a myth. Švyturys BHouse is one of the most popular places in Klaipėda. It’s worth a visit for beer lovers and families alike.

This restaurant is located on the historic grounds of a former brewery. It stands out with its spacious setting, cozy courtyard, and beautiful terrace. The menu includes a variety of snacks, main dishes, and options for kids. Švyturys BHouse is just outside the city center, next to Jonas Hill.
