Where to stay in Klaipėda with kids: Mercure hotel for families

Trips to the seaside are a top choice for families in summer. Some love the lively vibe of Palanga, others prefer the peace of Nida or Kunigiškiai, but we often choose Klaipėda. We especially enjoy Klaipėda’s beaches, playgrounds, swimming pool, Sea Museum, and of course, boat trips on the Curonian Lagoon. If you also visit Klaipėda often or are planning a trip, we have a great recommendation for you and an answer to a question we get asked a lot: Where to stay in Klaipėda with kids? Our top pick is Mercure Klaipėda City, a comfortable, family-friendly hotel.

Where to stay in Klaipėda with kids: Mercure hotel for families – our discovery of the summer. After staying here with the family, we can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for accommodation for families in Klaipėda. In our opinion, Mercure Klaipėda City is one of the best options for a family holiday by the sea. As part of an international hotel chain, it offers top-quality service. Here, comfort, convenience, and friendly service combine with a great location, a wide range of amenities, and delicious food.

You can conveniently book your stay online.

Why we loved Mercure Klaipėda City

Mercure Klaipėda City is located right in the city center, in a beautiful historic building, yet it only took us fifteen minutes to walk to the Old Town and the ferry to the Sea Museum with the kids. You don’t need to worry about parking either, as the hotel has a spacious and private parking lot.

The rooms are stylish and modern. We stayed in a larger room with a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in the living area. Since our youngest sleeps with us, it’s often hard to get a good night’s rest in hotels because the beds are usually narrow. Here, we found an exceptionally large bed two meters wide, just like at home. That’s rare in hotels! The beds are not only wide but extremely comfortable. We slept as well as at home. The hotel room was spacious, comfortable, and truly family-friendly. If needed, you can also request a crib for little ones. We were also impressed by the attention to detail, like an electrical socket that stays on even when you leave the room, so that you can charge your devices at any time.

The room also has a minibar. While most hotels usually only provide free water, here you’ll also find complimentary drinks juice, Coca-Cola, Fanta, tonic, and more. Plus, there’s a coffee machine with coffee pods. One thing we always miss in European hotels, but often find in the US, is an ice machine in the hallway and an ice bucket in the room.

The hotel also rents bicycles and, if needed, offers babysitting services. There’s a gym and a steam sauna.

”City Port” restaurant

Upon entering the restaurant, we first noticed the unique “Cranes” installations that decorate the entire hotel, created by artist Agnė Kišonaitė from old chains, metal parts, and other relics found in the port, giving them new life.

The restaurant “City Port” serves seasonal dishes, as well as international and local cuisine, daily specials, and late breakfasts. There’s also a kids’ menu and, most importantly, a cozy children’s corner.

Breakfast is the most important meal for us, so we always appreciate a hotel with a great breakfast plenty of choices and variety. Since Mercure Klaipėda City is part of an international hotel chain, we expected good breakfasts, but we were pleasantly surprised. We found everything from fresh fruit and croissants to homemade butter and a wide selection of hot dishes. The best part was that we could order hot food not only from the buffet but also à la carte pancakes, fried eggs, omelets, and more, all prepared to order. À la carte breakfast menu options are free.

In the morning, you’ll also find newspapers to read over your coffee.

Attention to kids

It’s great that from the moment you step into the hotel, you feel the attention to children. While we completed check-in, the kids received mini plush toys as gifts, which always puts a smile on their faces. We love these small touches, and so do the kids. The children’s corner in the restaurant is a big plus it means parents can enjoy dinner or breakfast while the kids play.

It’s also great that there’s a kids’ menu, and since breakfast is prepared à la carte, you can ask for exactly what your child likes.

We’re very happy with our choice to stay at Mercure Klaipėda City, and we’ll definitely be back. We can confidently recommend it for your family’s stay.
