Forelle boat trip: impressive tour of the Curonian Spit and the Dead Dunes
Forelle boat trip: an impressive tour of the Curonian Spit and the Dead Dunes – this was probably our most memorable trip of the summer. The views we saw during the journey will stay with us for a long time. Although we travel a lot around Lithuania, we had never sailed the Curonian Lagoon before. For years, visiting the Dead Dunes had been on our bucket list. Fortunately, this summer we finally found the perfect excursion – a Forelle boat tour from Klaipėda to Juodkrantė and the Dead Dunes.
This trip is a wonderful activity for the whole family. First, you depart from Klaipėda in the morning and sail through the port, where you can see ships, terminals, and the harbor’s daily life. Next, you arrive in Juodkrantė and have free time to walk around or have lunch. Afterwards, the boat continues to the Dead Dunes. Later, you return to Juodkrantė and, finally, head back to Klaipėda in the evening. Overall, it is a perfect day trip with family on a comfortable boat.
Starting from July 1st, the Forelle boat offers this route every day.
The Dead Dunes – one of the most impressive places in Lithuania
The Dead Dunes, located in the Nagliai Nature Reserve, are among Lithuania’s most spectacular sights. Here, the largest dune ridge offers breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. You can explore the Dead Dunes by walking the 1.1 km educational trail. Interestingly, these dunes are often called the Grey Dunes because of the unique color given by the vegetation.
The Dead Dunes got their name because, in the past, strong winds pushed them from the sea, burying several old fishing villages. The dunes “died” in the nineteenth century, after a protective ridge was built along the coast. Although you can enjoy wonderful views while walking the educational trail, the full beauty of the dunes reveals itself when seen from the Curonian Lagoon, standing on the boat deck.
That’s exactly the opportunity the Forelle boat provides.
The Forelle boat – a unique history and venue
The Forelle boat was built in Germany in 1934. It has a unique story and an authentic, cozy atmosphere. The boat features two covered decks, which comfortably seat all passengers. The lower deck has a bar and new sound equipment, making it perfect for celebrations and parties. The boat accommodates up to 80 people and is comfortable and safe year-round.
Parents will appreciate that the boat is very stable and does not rock, which is especially important when traveling with kids. In addition, there are enclosed decks, a toilet, and spaces to hide from the wind.
You can also rent the Forelle boat for private events, celebrations, conferences, or parties. The boat is perfect for group cruises, with enough space for snacks or full meals, whether you want to relax in the lounge or on the open deck and enjoy the views of the Curonian Spit.
Impressive tours on the Forelle boat
How can you celebrate holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries interestingly and unconventionally? Or maybe you want to surprise and delight your guests who are visiting Lithuania for the first time? Do you want to show them the undiscovered and unseen side of Lithuania? The best choice is a cruise on the Forelle boat.
While sailing on this boat, you can admire the full beauty of the Curonian Spit, and the cozy retro-style atmosphere on board enhances the experience, making you feel as if you’ve traveled back into the region’s history.
Currently, Forelle offers routes around the Klaipėda port area. In addition, there are trips to Juodkrantė, Nida, Uostadvaris, and Mingė Village (the “Lithuanian Venice”). While relaxing in the boat’s lounge or on the open deck, you can enjoy coffee and admire the views of the Curonian Spit National Park. There is a bar on board.
