Šakalinio Park is a magical world of fairytale characters near Vilnius. Located just 30 minutes by car from the city centre, the impressive park feels like a real magical forest where both children and adults enter a world of fairytales. You will probably say that you have already seen plenty of beautiful decorations and fairytale characters in family parks across Lithuania, but believe us, Šakalinio Park is different. When you arrive, you follow a magical trail winding through the forest, while familiar fairytale characters, little houses, and various installations appear one after another among the pine trees. However, the most interesting part begins when you approach them. Here, the fairytale literally comes to life.
In one place, you hear a voice, while somewhere else parts of a sculpture begin to move or a little windmill starts spinning. At one cottage, Winnie-the-Pooh is happily enjoying some honey, while elsewhere you will find the story of Hansel and Gretel, and when you approach their house, you can hear Hansel’s voice from inside.
Further along, you will find a scene from the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. Inside the house, a wolf disguised as a grandmother is sleeping in a bed, and when you approach, you can even hear him snoring.
These unexpected sounds, movements, and small details create the greatest sense of intrigue for children. As you walk along the forest trail, you constantly want to discover what is waiting around the next corner.
Šakalinio Park – a magical world of fairytale characters for the whole family
Šakalinio Park also impressed us because it is not only designed for young children. Children can watch moving and talking characters from familiar fairytales, while we adults quickly start remembering the fairytales we read in our own childhood.
This is not simply a series of sculptures that you walk past and photograph. The entire space is designed as a continuous walk through a fairytale forest, where you want to stop, look closely at the details, and listen.
Perhaps that is why the park creates a completely different atmosphere from typical children’s entertainment destinations from the very first minutes.
Among the various fairytale stops, another interactive experience awaits – a prince and the famous glass slipper. You can try on the slipper, and if it “fits”, the prince speaks and announces that you are his princess. It may seem like a small detail, but these little touches are exactly what make Šakalinio Park so unique.
A child is not simply an observer here – they are constantly drawn into the story.
Bird trail and forest school
Šakalinio Park focuses not only on fairytales but also on education. As you continue along the forest trail, an interactive bird trail awaits. There you can learn more about birds, while another interesting stop is the forest school. Here, children can learn about forest animals, with various information provided next to them, and later they can answer questions and check how much they managed to remember.
We liked that education here is not separated from entertainment. Children simply travel through the park, play, and learn something new along the way. As you walk along the forest trails, you can also see fallow deer grazing in an enclosure. An observation platform nearby allows you to watch the animals from above.
Giant Šakalinio playground
After a more peaceful journey through the world of fairytales and the forest, a more active part of the park awaits. This is where the active entertainment for children begins.
One of the most impressive attractions is the giant Šakalinio playground with spectacular slides. Nearby, there are various swings, activities for younger and older children, as well as zipline-style racing descents.
If you are visiting Šakalinio Park with children, it is worth planning more time from the start, as they can easily spend a long time in this area alone.
The park also has many smaller attractions that may not look as impressive in photos, but which the children found very enjoyable. One of them is a ball racing track. Here you can release balls along different tracks and watch which one reaches the finish line first.
We like activities like these because they are simple, do not require a long wait for your turn, and children want to repeat them again and again. The water playground and interesting sports equipment are also sure to entertain children.
Barefoot trail and mud track
Another Šakalinio Park attraction is a beautifully maintained barefoot trail. There is a place nearby to wash your feet, so the practical side has also been taken care of. Those looking for even more adventure can also try the mud track.
The most fun part comes after you complete it – automatically activated water jets spray your feet like little fountains and help wash away the mud. For children, of course, experiences like this often become one of the most enjoyable parts of the entire visit.
Practical information
We arrived at Šakalinio Park thinking we would have a quick look around and get to know the new place. In the end, we spent almost four hours here with the children. We could have stayed even longer.
The children wanted to try some of the activities again and return to the playground, while another place to stop kept appearing as we walked along the forest trails. Therefore, when planning your visit, we definitely would not recommend allowing only one hour for Šakalinio Park.
For a longer visit, it is also important to know that you can eat at the park.
There is a café serving coffee, snacks, and hot food. We saw chicken fillet pieces, a Kyiv-style chicken cutlet, and other dishes on the menu. We ate here, and the food was really tasty.
There is also an ice cream shop next to the playground. Throughout the area, there are plenty of gazebos and relaxation areas, some of which are suitable for birthday parties or other private celebrations.
What impressed us most about Šakalinio Park
We travel a lot and visit all kinds of amusement parks in Lithuania and abroad with our children, so it is becoming increasingly difficult to surprise us. However, Šakalinio Park managed to do it.
And it was not because of one huge slide or the barefoot trail. What impressed us most was the entire idea behind the park.
A fantastic pine forest. Meticulously maintained surroundings. A fairytale trail where the sculptures are not simply static decorations. Voices, sounds, and moving elements. Educational stops. Fallow deer. Play areas. A barefoot trail. And countless small details that you only notice as you continue walking.
Šakalinio Park beautifully combines the forest, fairytales, education and entertainment. Perhaps the best measure of our visit is the fact that we came for a short time but did not leave until almost four hours later.
