We travel a lot around Lithuania and thought we already knew the best and most family-friendly places, pools, and hotels. However, now and then, we discover a spot that surprises even us and makes us wonder how we hadn’t visited before. Without a doubt, if we had to choose one of the most underrated and least-known family getaway spots in Lithuania, Žiogelis – a hotel on the shore of Lake Sartai – would be at the top of our list. There’s surprisingly little information about this place online. Yet after a weekend here, we realized one thing: this is a truly hidden gem in Lithuania, one that easily deserves a spot among the top family retreats in the country.

Žiogelis hotel on the shore of Lake Sartai
Visiting Rokiškis and the Rokiškis district had been on our list for a while. Driving past, the city always seemed interesting to us. We had visited Ilzenberg Manor and realized this region has some incredible hidden gems. We’re glad we spent a whole weekend in Rokiškis, not just a day, because we found so many wonderful places that we’re already planning to return. One of our biggest discoveries was Žiogelis hotel on the shore of Lake Sartai.
The moment we arrived, both kids and adults were impressed by the hotel’s location. Žiogelis sits right in the Sartai Regional Park, on the shore of one of Lithuania’s most beautiful lakes. All around is peace, pine forests, water, and everything needed for a perfect family holiday. In the mornings, you can sip coffee while gazing at Lake Sartai, and in the evenings, watch the sunset from the terrace. For kids, this is paradise – playgrounds, outdoor spaces, indoor fun, a pool, and more. After a wonderful weekend, we couldn’t believe we hadn’t found this place sooner – and wondered why no one talks about it.
Žiogelis – high-level hotel by Lake Sartai
We expected a decent lakeside retreat, but the reality exceeded all our expectations. Žiogelis impressed us with its quality and well-developed infrastructure. This is far from a classic countryside homestead. The entire complex is modern, neat, and meticulously maintained, with an atmosphere reminiscent of a peaceful Scandinavian-style retreat in nature.
You can choose from various room types at the hotel – from cozy rooms for couples to spacious family rooms with kitchenettes. Since we traveled with kids, this was a huge plus. The rooms are spacious, clean, and cozy – some even have balconies or terraces with views of Lake Sartai. Everything seems designed not just for a short weekend, but for longer holidays in nature. Incredibly, the rooms feature high-quality bedding, soft towels with the hotel logo, and quality toiletries. Such details show how much love and care the owners put into guest comfort. The staff also deserve special mention – our daughter even picked flowers for the receptionist, saying, “She’s so nice!”
Pool, SPA, entertainment
The biggest discovery at Žiogelis was the pool and spa area. We didn’t expect such high-quality facilities in the Rokiškis region. Here, you’ll find a large pool, three different saunas, and cozy relaxation areas where you can fully unwind. Most importantly, the pool water is always pleasantly warm. You don’t have to stay overnight to visit the pool. Plus, you can order drinks and snacks by the pool, as the restaurant provides high-quality unbreakable dishes – perfect for families, since kids always get hungry while swimming. If you’re looking for a spa or pool experience while traveling in this part of Lithuania, Žiogelis is our top recommendation.
Žiogelis isn’t a place where you’ll get bored after a few hours. The whole territory is perfect for family relaxation as well as more active outdoor fun.
Outside, there’s a big playground, plenty of space for walks, and in the warm season, you can rent kayaks, boats, or other water gear and explore Lake Sartai. This is one of the most beautiful spots for peaceful nature holidays in Lithuania. The lakeshore is also ideal for swimming.
If the weather isn’t great or you want more indoor activities, the hotel’s basement has billiards, table tennis, and mini golf. There’s also a kids’ playroom. This kind of infrastructure is perfect for families, since there’s something to do all day, whatever the weather.
Paradise for kids and parents
Our kids thought Žiogelis was one of the best family weekend stays in Lithuania. The pool was their favorite – they hardly wanted to get out! They also loved the playroom, which was open even in the evenings. For parents, this is a big plus: while the kids play, you can relax in the spa or have dinner in the restaurant.
We imagine it must be wonderful here in summer, when you can swim in the lake and enjoy water activities. We’re already planning to return in the summer.
The hotel has a restaurant, and in summer, an outdoor terrace with a lake view opens up. The evening atmosphere is very cozy – full of peace, nature, and a sense of slow relaxation. This is exactly the kind of holiday more and more people are seeking in Lithuania.
What stands out most at Žiogelis isn’t just the pool and spa by the lake, but the overall atmosphere. There’s no city bustle, no crowds like in big spas, and no rush. The place is designed for calm, slow, and high-quality relaxation.
That’s why, after a weekend here, we left thinking this place won’t be a secret for long. A resort like this on the shore of Lake Sartai truly has everything families, couples, or anyone looking for a quiet escape from the city could want.
