We are often asked where to ski in Latvia with children. Our answer and recommendation is Riekstukalns. Riekstukalns is one of the largest ski resorts in Latvia. It is located only a 30-minute drive from Riga, in the Baldone municipality. This ski resort in Latvia is our family’s favorite. It offers well-developed infrastructure, many ski slopes, and activities for those who do not ski.

Where to ski in Latvia with children
Where to ski in Latvia with children? We have prepared a guide covering all ski resorts in Latvia. However, we truly like Riekstukalns the most.
Here you will find ten slopes of different difficulty levels. They range from easy runs for beginners to longer and more challenging slopes for advanced skiers.

In addition, there is a special hill next to the slopes for children to sled. This hill is free of charge, but you need to bring your own sled. Near the hill, there are convenient picnic tables where you can snack and rest.
Practical and useful information
Here you can rent ski equipment. The selection is very wide. It includes slalom skis, snowboards, and boots. For those looking for a unique experience, TOP-class skis are available. You can rent them or buy them at a special price.
Everything is organized in a very modern way. At the rental point, you receive a number, so you do not need to stand in long lines. However, make sure to bring an identity document for ski rental. At the rental desk, you receive a document with a barcode. With this barcode, you can pay for the rental and lifts at the cashier.
You can buy tickets on-site or online. When buying online, tickets are slightly cheaper. In addition, ticket vending machines are available on-site, so you can avoid waiting in lines. If you already have online tickets and do not need equipment rental, you can collect your ski passes at the first cabin near the lifts. Then you can park your car in the first parking lot. This area usually has fewer people.

Helmets are not mandatory for skiing. However, we always recommend wearing helmets while skiing to reduce the risk of injuries.
You can also arrange lessons with an instructor. It is best to do this in advance. Experienced and professional instructors will help you learn the basics of skiing or improve your technique.

On-site facilities and leisure
At the foot of the hill, above the rental area, there is a very cozy café with tasty food. Prices are very reasonable as well. There is also a great outdoor terrace where you can watch skiers.
Overall, the resort strongly resembles well-known mountain ski resorts. As a result, many small details have been carefully considered. For example, the resort offers free outdoor picnic tables. In addition, special clothing racks with water channels help keep café floors dry and safe. Moreover, the ski rental system is modern and well organized.
Moreover, on weekends, Après-ski parties take place, following the best skiing traditions.
Because we enjoyed this place so much, we will definitely return in summer. During summer, the area offers a children’s playground, giant swings, bungee jumping on a trampoline, tubing, the “Kokos Rieksts” adventure park, and a 650-meter zipline runway. There is also an observation tower.
