What to do in Marijampolė with children: places to visit, activities and discoveries – this is a great and tried weekend plan for you. We have no doubt that both you and your children will like this Suvalkija city. There are extremely many interesting places, parks with children’s playgrounds, activities and tourist attractions. So be sure to mark Marijampolė on your route of places to visit.
Since the best and most interesting city places are always best shown by locals, this time we decided to book a guide for a short excursion. The Marijampolė Tourism and Information Centre recommended a wonderful guide Jurgita. They mentioned that she can show the most interesting city places for children. And truly – an hour with Jurgita passed unnoticed. She showed the new MaLony drawings in the city, told interesting facts, took us to the water footprints, showed the small library in Poetry Park and recommended really interesting places.
If not for Jurgita, we would not have discovered the restobar “Kampas”, whose walls at the end of summer 2025 were decorated with the artist Ray Bartkus’ drawing “The Witness House” – shadow silhouettes telling the city’s stories. By the way, besides art you can also find the culinary heritage of the Sūduva region here – in tastings you can try authentic Sūduva dishes. Thanks to Jurgita we marked this place for our next trip, because we really love different food tastings.
Street art in Marijampolė
Marijampolė is a mecca for street art lovers. The walls of Marijampolė city are decorated with many graffiti and frescoes, and their number grows every year due to the art symposium “MaLonNy” taking place in Marijampolė. This event, whose name consists of the first letters of “Marijampolė”, “London” and “New York”, attracts international street artists every year, who decorate city façades with colourful artworks. You can find these drawings on various city buildings – houses, building walls and even the prison fence. Children will really like the hunt for these artworks in the city. And it is a great opportunity to walk around the city.
There are artworks all over the city and every year more appear. In addition, the project constantly presents new interesting things related to the artworks. Recently the artworks were supplemented with augmented reality. For our kids it was a complete wow factor when the artworks came alive through the Snapchat app. Currently the augmented reality works in three drawings: “The Flock” (in the Cats’ Yard), “World Warning” (Old Town Bakery) and “State of Weightlessness” (cinema “Spindulys”).

Unique installation in Poetry Park
There are incredibly interesting places in Marijampolė. One of them is the impressive installation in Poetry Park, donated by Dominykas Vakrinas, located in the stream. These are footprints rising above the water. When you step on them, in a photo it may look as if you are walking on water. This is a great place for photos and a new attraction in the city.
Marijampolė Region and President Kazys Grinius Museum
The more we travel around Lithuania, the more we are convinced that museums in Lithuania are extremely interesting, innovative and truly modern. In addition, they organise many educational activities. A year ago, while visiting Marijampolė, we were impressed by Bulotai House. And this time we visited the Marijampolė Region Museum. And not only visited, but also participated in the family day.
It is one of the oldest museums in Suvalkija, established in 1933, currently located in a complex of late 19th-century buildings, in the former courthouse. On Saturdays, family days take place in the museum, during which very interesting educational activities happen. We took part in the wax wonders education – we made candles, learned the art of batik and drew on cotton fabric with a special tool. The children really liked it. Our discovery in Marijampolė – Gediminas Passage
When travelling, we really like food markets and multifunctional spaces where there are cafés, leisure and entertainment places. And if they are interesting, that is an even bigger plus. And believe me, we found such a place in Marijampolė. It is a place where there is everything: art, delicious food, interesting shops, exhibitions and events. Gediminas Passage is a cosy and beautifully arranged space in the centre of Marijampolė. Here, under the open sky, small shops, a play area, cafés and exhibitions, as well as temporary expositions, create a space often called “an art gallery without doors”. In summer, it is extremely cosy here in the illuminated terrace. Various celebrations and events also take place here.
Here we not only had a delicious meal and tasted divine desserts, but also discovered two special spaces. These are the Magical Post store and the family celebration studio Tavo pasaka.
Magical Post
Magical Post is a wonderful store known by many parents raising children. Its assortment includes exclusive brands from France, Denmark and other countries and high-quality goods for children. The store is unique because you can come here to choose gifts, see everything, touch it, and there is even a separate creative corner for children. In addition, Magical Post creates wonderful Christmas gifts for children, Advent calendars, Elf sets, letters from Santa Claus.
Of course we could not leave the store empty-handed. We bought the Mideer bottle with a spray nozzle that Motiejus had long wanted, and a morning and evening routine calendar set created by Magical Post.
Family celebration studio Tavo pasaka
A very beautiful and stylish celebration studio run by a mother and daughter. The studio is suitable not only for children’s birthdays but also for other celebrations: christenings, children’s events, graduations. The hosts of the studio can take care of the décor and even hot food for the celebration guests.
Marijampolė – impressive parks, educational trails and nature spaces
Marių Park – the best and most beautiful green space in Lithuania
Since we have visited Marijampolė more than once, first of all this city associates with art and parks for us. Probably no other city in Lithuania has such beautiful and well-kept parks as Marijampolė. We really like Poetry Park, which is perfect for leisure with children: beautifully arranged paths, fountains, a playground. And nearby there is also a skatepark.
However, our discovery this year was Marių Park. In 2025, the Marių Park island won first place in the national competition “Green Space 2025”. A professional commission and readers from all over Lithuania chose Marių Park island as the best and most beautiful green space project in the country. A total of 29 cities and towns participated in the competition, presenting 53 green spaces for evaluation. Visiting here we really understood why Marių Park was chosen as the best space in Lithuania: sandy beach, special fishing platforms, children’s play area, outdoor grills, beach volleyball and football courts and many other activities. There are also benches, changing cabins, walking paths. Access roads and a parking lot have also been arranged.
Buktos educational trail
Buktos Forest is unique, especially for botanists and naturalists. In this, one of the most valuable forested areas in Lithuania, more than 500 herbaceous plants are counted. Buktos educational trail offers you 1.3 and 1.7 km long educational walks, during which at 7 installed stops you can get acquainted with hornbeam forests, alluvial forests, wet deciduous forests, and with plant and animal species growing and living around the trail. The trail is really not difficult, easily manageable with children. And it is really a very beautiful and pleasant place for a walk.
In addition, very close, just 700 metres from the trail, there is a great resting place where you can find everything you need for a good picnic – a shelter, swings, trash bins and a toilet. So if you want to plan a pleasant trip with a picnic in nature – Buktos trail is a perfect place.
Forest Alpacas
Forest Alpacas is a small and cosy alpaca farm located in Vidgiriai village, Marijampolė district. Here you can get acquainted with the alpacas, feed them and take photos together. The owners will tell many interesting things about their life. In the warm season, children can enjoy a trampoline, slide, swings and sand toys. There is also a terrace for children’s birthdays or celebrations.
On regular days, you can visit here in groups of 10 people or more. On weekends you can come with your family.
Where to stay in Marijampolė
For the night we chose a very quiet and beautiful place in the suburbs of Marijampolė – the guest house “Marių įlanka”. The guest house “Marių įlanka” is an accommodation and leisure place in a very beautiful location, opened to guests just a few years ago.
Up to 20 people can stay in the guest house at one time. Each room has air conditioning, showers, comfortable beds. And wonderful views open through the windows. The guest house has a spacious kitchen with all necessary household appliances. Outside there are two terraces and a large green lawn area for quiet leisure, children’s games or sports.
The guest house offers convenient spaces both for quiet family rest and for organising formal celebrations and various conferences.
Very close to the guest house there is also a camping site.
Where to eat in Marijampolė
There are many great cafés and restaurants in Marijampolė. Since we travelled with children, our choice was a tried and children’s favourite restaurant PJazz. PJazz restaurant is located in the Mercure hotel in the very centre of the city. If you are travelling with children, this is truly an ideal place because there is a very large children’s play corner. And the children’s menu is really excellent.
One of the first PJazz restaurants in Lithuania was and still is located in Vilnius, very close to our home where I lived when I was a child. Therefore, I really liked and still like this restaurant since childhood. For so many years it has never disappointed with the quality of the food, and the pizzas baked here are truly some of the most delicious. But the most important thing is that they have not only delicious pizzas, but also other dishes that are really of excellent taste. I really like their salads and especially the Thai soup.
