Trakai with kids: top family favorites – what to see and try

If you think Trakai with kids is just about the castle, this article will change your mind. We live near Trakai, so we visit often and discover new places every time – places that fascinate our kids and us. From boating on Lake Galvė and one of the most beautiful nature trails in Lithuania to a restaurant with an amazing castle view, Trakai truly has a lot to offer. We’re sharing our family’s top favorites in Trakai – places we confidently recommend for every family.

Start your Trakai adventure with refreshing TRAKUČIA

We visit Trakai all year round, but for us, Trakai with kids is all about summer. Before you start exploring, try the city’s new symbol – Trakučia, a refreshing summer drink created just for Trakai. This light, fresh drink is full of summer spirit and perfectly reflects the character of Trakai – its lakes, relaxation, and slow enjoyment of the moment. We love the idea that the city is not only creating new attractions but also its own flavor that every visitor can try. If you’re in Trakai this summer, look for Trakučia. It’s a small but delightful find and a great way to start your visit. You can buy Trakučia at the Trakai Tourism and Business Information Center.

Senoji kibininė – Trakai with kids classic: taste traditional kibinai, learn how to make them, and enjoy a picnic by Lake Galvė

When you visit Trakai, you simply can’t skip the famous kibinai, traditional pastries filled with mutton and onion. However, we recommend going further – not just tasting kibinai, but learning to make them yourself. That’s why one of our favorite spots in Trakai is Senoji Kibininė, the oldest kibinai bakery, dating back to 1969.

If you’re traveling with kids, definitely join a kibinai workshop. You’ll learn about the history and Karaim traditions of kibinai, and then everyone gets to shape their own pastry. For kids, it’s not just fun – it’s a chance to see up close how one of Trakai’s most iconic dishes is made. After the workshop, you can taste your own kibinai with a cup of warm broth.

Senoji Kibininė is a very popular spot, and it can get crowded at peak times. So, if the weather is nice, here’s another tip: buy kibinai for takeaway and have a picnic on the shore of Lake Galvė. It’s one of the simplest yet coziest ways to enjoy Trakai – tasty pastries, a lake view, and the castle in the background. We also love Senoji Kibininė’s desserts and always take home žagarėliai, sweet kibinai, and šimtalapis. In our opinion, these moments create the best travel memories. By the way, Senoji Kibininė has a fun outdoor playground for kids.

Unique boat rides

If there’s one activity that really defines Trakai and is absolutely worth trying, it’s a boat ride on Lake Galvė. When you arrive at the castle, you’ll see dozens of boats waiting for you. However, we recommend heading a bit further, towards Užutrakis Manor. There is “Laivai Trakuose” and their charismatic owner, Ugnius, who offer more than just a boat ride – they deliver a full water experience. Ugnius loves Trakai, and you can tell he truly enjoys bringing people onto the lake. Modern, comfortable boats are perfect for family trips, meeting friends, or even celebrating. The journey offers some of the most beautiful views in Trakai – the castle, Užutrakis Manor, islands, and lake shores. Ugnius also shares fascinating stories about Trakai and shows you hidden spots you never knew about. Plus, he lets kids become captains for a while and steer the boat.

A big advantage is that you can do more than a typical boat ride. “Laivai Trakuose” offers guided tours, on-board dining, a grill, paddleboarding, and other water fun. For even more excitement, Ugnius organizes an orienteering game on Lake Galvė. There you solve tasks and discover Trakai in a whole new way.

Another benefit – at Užutrakis Manor, you can park your car for free.

Le Vivier – restaurant in one of Trakai’s highest locations with one of the most beautiful views of Trakai Castle

If you’re looking for a spot with an amazing view of Trakai Castle, great food, and a kids’ play area, Le Vivier restaurant is the perfect place for you.

The restaurant sits at the highest point in Trakai, with a terrace on the second floor offering a breathtaking panorama of Lake Galvė and the castle. It’s one of those places we always want to return to. Best of all, there’s a large playground on the terrace – making it the ideal spot for a peaceful meal.

The kitchen blends Lithuanian traditions with modern tastes. Dishes are made from fresh, seasonal ingredients, and the menu is always updated. You’ll find gourmet meals and a dedicated kids’ menu, so the whole family can dine comfortably.

We love this spot not only for the food but also for the view, kids’ menu, play area, free parking, and, most importantly, the incredible scenery.

Slėnis Trakuose – one of the most beautiful beaches near Vilnius

If you love swimming, stop by Slėnis Trakuose. This private sandy beach sits right on Lake Galvė, with stunning views of Trakai Castle and Užutrakis Manor. You’ll find sun loungers, a pier, a beach bar, sports courts, water activities, and lots of shade. Although there’s an entrance fee, the infrastructure is excellent, and it’s perfect for families. If you plan to spend the whole day at the beach, this is one of the best swimming spots.

Varnikai Nature Trail – one of the most beautiful and family-friendly trails in Lithuania

If you want to go for a walk, be sure to check out the Varnikai nature trail. It’s one of the most scenic trails in Lithuania and perfect for a peaceful family stroll. It’s also one of the most family-friendly, as it was recently renovated and most of the path is an easy wooden walkway – stroller accessible. The circular route is about 3.5 km and takes you through forest, over boardwalks and wetlands, and lets you experience the unique nature of Trakai Historical National Park. As you walk, you’ll see beautiful lake shores, plenty of information stands, and a route that is easy for kids. We love this spot for its tranquility – just a few kilometers from Trakai center, yet it feels like a completely different world.
