Rokiškis Manor looks like a scene from a film: inside – luxury and legends

We thought we had seen everything in Lithuania, but visiting this manor truly amazed us. Rokiškis Manor is one of the most impressive places we have visited with our family recently. As soon as you step inside, you feel like you’ve entered a movie set: grand halls, authentic interiors, antique furniture, and stories that have lived here for centuries. Although many have heard about this place, trust us – seeing Rokiškis Manor in person leaves a completely different impression.

Rokiškis Manor looks like a scene from a film – one of the most striking in Lithuania

Rokiškis Manor looks like a scene from a film – that was our first thought when we saw the manor park and exterior, and this feeling only grew once we went inside. Historians say the manor was first mentioned at the end of the 15th century and reached its peak during the Tyzenhaus counts’ era. They transformed the palace into a lavish residence, renowned for its architecture, art collections, and cultural life. Today, the Rokiškis Regional Museum is located here, but when you visit, it’s easy to feel the genuine atmosphere of old noble Lithuania.

The preserved interiors made the biggest impression – ornate halls, fireplaces, authentic furniture, and impressive door details. Some spaces look as if they were prepared for a film crew. Just as intriguing are the legends about secret tunnels beneath the manor, tales that locals still share.

Rokiškis Manor looks like a scene from a film. What can you see and do at Rokiškis Manor?

Take your time to enjoy not only the palace itself but also the entire grounds. Here you can:

  • visit authentic manor halls;
  • learn about the Tyzenhaus Counts’ history;
  • see preserved art and household collections;
  • feed the manor animals;
  • stroll through the old manor park;
  • explore exhibitions and temporary displays;
  • join educational programs and tastings.

We were surprised at how much there is to do here, with something for adults and families with kids alike. It’s great that Rokiškis Manor regularly hosts a variety of events and celebrations.

Our kids and we loved the most popular attraction at the manor – the virtual reality film “Sofija and the Emperor,” which lets you step back into the 19th century.

Educational activities at Rokiškis Manor

You can book truly interesting educational experiences at Rokiškis Manor. Each one gives you a chance not only to explore the impressive palace, but also to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of manor life. There are workshops about the manor’s history, old crafts, heraldry, traditional flavors, and even tastings. We are sure both kids and parents will love the “Karvutės” caramel-making class. You can also join the “Icy Manor” educational program, watch the virtual reality film “Sofija and the Emperor,” see wood carvings by Lionginas Šepka, and stroll the 200-year-old park, home to black swans and fallow deer.

Why is it worth visiting?

We often look for impressive destinations abroad, but places like Rokiškis Manor remind us of how much beauty we have in Lithuania. It’s a place where history, luxury, legends, and tranquility merge. Even if you’re not usually a fan of manors, this one might surprise you.

If you’re planning a trip in this part of Lithuania or need a unique weekend destination for the family, definitely add this manor to your travel plans.

If you visit Rokiškis, we also highly recommend checking out the Rokiškis swimming pool, which our kids loved, and the only street with painted shutters in Lithuania. If you’d like to stay overnight or enjoy a family spa break, we also recommend Hotel Žiogelis.
