If you’re raising children and living in Vilnius, like us, you’ve probably faced the same question more than once – where to go so the kids will truly have fun. While the city is changing rapidly, there’s still a lack of original, more diverse playgrounds. This is especially noticeable compared to Kaunas or other Lithuanian cities, which are increasingly surprising with innovative spaces for little ones. But finally, there is good news – St. Florian’s Square in Naujamiestis has been opened to the community. This is not only a cozy leisure space, but also a unique firefighter-themed playground that could easily claim the title of one of the most interesting in all of Lithuania. And if you’re looking for even more ideas of what to do with kids, you should check out the best playgrounds in Vilnius, the best playgrounds in Kaunas, and the best playgrounds in Lithuania.

St. Florian’s Square in Vilnius – A Long-Awaited Leisure Space
New and Unique Playground in Vilnius: St. Florian’s Square Surprises Even the Most Seasoned Visitors. Even before its official opening, it was obvious that the city really needed this place. People were drawn to the square even when it wasn’t finished yet. Despite the fences, curiosity prevailed: parents with children still found ways to sneak in, try out the playground, or just take a look at the future square.
This only further demonstrated how much Vilnius lacks more interesting playgrounds and leisure spaces. Before the official opening, this place had already appeared on social media thanks to content creators, even though it wasn’t open to the public yet. As a result, this sparked quite a bit of debate among parents.
We’re very glad that the Naujamiestis district has finally announced the official opening. The fences are down, and now the square and playground can be fully enjoyed without any doubts. The high number of children we saw when we visited really shows just how anticipated and needed this playground was.
What Makes This Square and Playground Special
St. Florian’s Square is located in Naujamiestis, between Morta and T. Ševčenkos Streets, in a spot that for a long time was an underused urban area. The goal of this project is to transform this territory into a vibrant community hotspot. It is designed both for relaxation and for active recreation.
The square is named after St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. Its proximity to the Fire and Rescue Department inspired the entire concept of the area.
What immediately sets this square apart is that this is not just another standard playground. It is a carefully thought-out space for families. Children are drawn to it by its unique play elements, while parents appreciate its clear structure and safety.
This space is especially appealing because it avoids the boring “same everywhere” approach. Here, kids can not only climb and swing, but also play in a truly large area. For us, a big advantage is that the playground has a soft surface. This makes it safe and comfortable even for younger children. It’s a bit odd that there’s sand near two of the slides, but that’s just a minor detail. On the bright side, there are plenty of benches around, making it easy to watch the kids as they play.
