Where is Montaña Roja?
The volcano is located in the town of El Médano, in the southern part of Tenerife.
In general, once you arrive, you can easily park your car at the Playa La Tejita beach parking area or alternatively in the La Tejita neighborhood.
Hike duration and difficulty
The route length is about 3–4 km round trip, depending on the starting point. The hike takes around 45–60 minutes.
Difficulty:
- This is a climb uphill with the descent along the same path.
- It is suitable for children from around 5 years old and for beginner hikers.
- The final section is steeper, but the distance is short.
When is the best time to hike?
- Morning: fewer people and cooler temperatures.
- Evening: ideal for sunset. The mountain faces west, so the view of the sun setting over the ocean is truly impressive.
- Avoid midday in summer, as there is almost no shade and it gets very hot.
Views and what you will see at the top
