Legoland Germany with children

LEGO bricks are probably the most well-known toy in the world. And a trip to Legoland is often a dream for every child. Therefore, if your family loves LEGO, Legoland is a great destination for you. Moreover, Legoland Germany with children is a place worth visiting.

We often share tips on how to plan a trip, what to take with you, and where to go so that traveling with children stays fun and not boring. Although LEGO bricks are not the most convenient toy for traveling, as small pieces can easily get lost, there are 10 Legoland parks in the world. There, children can unleash their imagination and step into the fun LEGO world, where they can build and create as much as they want. Our children, on every trip, are most excited to visit amusement or water parks, playrooms, and playgrounds. Therefore, we always include such places in our travel plans, because happy children mean happy parents. In this article, you will find tips and recommendations from mother Julija, who visited Legoland Germany with children, including how to get there, what to see, where to stay, where to buy tickets, and how much everything cost.

More than one Legoland exists in the world. Three Legolands operate in the USA – in California, Florida, and New York State. Another one stands in the UK (Windsor), and four more are in Asia (Malaysia, Japan, Dubai, and Korea). In addition, there are two in Europe – in Germany and Denmark, the birthplace of LEGO.

The closest one to Lithuania is Legoland Germany, located between the towns of Deffingen and Kleinkotz. You can reach it by car, plane, or train. Julija’s family found cheap flight tickets to Germany (only 40 euros round trip), so they chose to fly to Nuremberg airport. This airport is only about 1.5 hours from Legoland. However, there were some “adventures.” Due to technical road works, the flight was canceled, so the family had to travel to Frankfurt instead, which is about 3.5 hours away from Legoland. In Germany, for a larger family, renting a car is the most convenient option.

Although the family chose to travel to Legoland in May, they bought park tickets in advance, in March. This way, they received an Early bird discount. Since the park is large, they spent two days there. Therefore, when booking tickets online, they chose an offer with accommodation in a themed Holiday Village room, as Julija explains.

There are many accommodation options, from camper spots and camping barrels to hotels and rooms. Our friends chose to stay in a castle.

If you do not plan to stay overnight or did not buy tickets in advance, we recommend using a LEGO catalogue (1+1) coupon to save money. Ticket prices on the website start from 39 euros per person.

Entertainment in Legoland

Legoland Germany has as many as 68 attractions, a miniature Germany recreated from LEGO, and thousands of other LEGO structures. The park divides into 9 zones: Lego Mythica, Lego Ninjago World, Lego City, Lego X-treme, Imagination, Pharaohs Land, Knight’s Kingdom, Adventure Land, and Pirate Land.

As in many amusement parks, different attractions have different height requirements. Since Julija traveled with children aged 1 m tall, 6, and 8 years old, the youngest could not try all attractions. However, the park has many playgrounds and spaces suitable for younger children. One of the favorites was the colorful LEGO Duplo playground with water fountains, where children can cool down in hot weather. Therefore, do not forget to bring extra clothes.

Older children enjoyed searching for gold in Knight’s Kingdom, the LEGO factory with interactive swings, the Legoland Express train, boat rides in Pirate Land, a hot air balloon ride in Pharaohs Land, and of course, the roller coasters.

Food

The park offers a wide variety of food. In most zones, you will find several restaurants and dessert spots. There are pizzas, burgers, salads, schnitzels, Asian dishes, ice cream, waffles, popcorn, and drinks. Food prices are similar to those in Lithuania, although slightly higher. There are many offers for families. You can also buy unlimited drinks, which you can refill every 10 minutes using a special LEGO bottle. However, we recommend buying snacks in a regular store before arriving and having main meals inside the park.

Tips and recommendations

We spent only two days in Legoland, but to try everything, you would need at least four. Overall, the trip left a great impression on the whole family. There is plenty of information available in English, so it is easy to find everything. Also, the staff is helpful and friendly, and they assist when needed.

The only downside is that there are additional paid activities inside the park. Since the entrance itself is not cheap, we did not expect to pay extra for things like driving small cars, gold searching, and similar activities.

Also, regarding tickets, we recommend choosing cancellation insurance. If you book accommodation in Legoland and your plans change, you can get your money back. Since the airline changed our flights and we did not choose insurance, we could not cancel. Instead, we had to pay the price difference. The process of changing dates was quite tiring, as it was done only via email, and replies took 2–3 days.

When flying, especially in large airports, we recommend labeling children’s clothes with parents’ contact information, such as a phone number, or using a smart watch. Our 6-year-old got lost in just a second. Fortunately, everything ended well. Security took him to the Lost & Found room. Therefore, make sure to explain to your child what to do if they get lost. You can get wristbands with parents’ contact details at the entrance, but only if you ask for them.
