Klaipėda Leisure Park with playgrounds
The first place on the list of free activities with children in Klaipėda is the most famous and popular park – Klaipėda Leisure Park. This park is a space for sports, entertainment, and recreation for city residents and visitors. Moreover, it offers as many as 18 active leisure zones for everyone to enjoy.
Here you can play football, basketball, tennis, mini golf, and volleyball. In addition, the city has taken children of Klaipėda and young visitors into consideration and has specially installed playgrounds for them. So boredom will definitely not be a problem.
Danė Square and Yard with playgrounds
The city recently renovated Danė Square, and people immediately loved it. Moreover, in the center of the square, you will find a relaxation oasis and a discovery space. Finally, at the far end, there is an active leisure zone perfect for those who enjoy movement and play.
Here you can enjoy a cozy environment and deepen your historical knowledge. The main street of the square features a special timeline that tells the most important events in the city’s history.

Jonas Hill complex with playgrounds
There is hardly a person in Lithuania who hasn’t at least heard of Jonas Hill. The Jonas Hill complex consists of three separate areas. Moreover, the most striking view of the fortifications opens up from the bastions at the end of Turgaus Street. In front of them, you can see the water of the defensive moat and the only surviving ravelin. In the evenings, fountains operate here, creating a calm and cozy atmosphere. In addition, the area includes children’s playgrounds, a basketball court, outdoor gym equipment, and a beach volleyball court. It is a pleasant place to walk, sit, and observe the open spaces of Jonas Hill, watch swimming ducks and swans, or notice anglers fishing nearby. Finally, organizers often hold concerts here, especially for Midsummer and other festive occasions.
Cherry Blossom Park with playgrounds
Next to the Fishermen’s Palace in Klaipėda, on the Naikupė Street side, a new recreational space has recently been opened – Cherry Blossom Park. This park creates an atmosphere similar to a traditional Japanese garden – a space where the pace of life slows down. Moreover, here you can experience a sense of harmony with nature and relax with your family after a day’s work. In addition, three comfortable children’s playgrounds have been installed in the park. Finally, in the rest areas, you’ll find outdoor benches and tables for a pleasant stay.
Sculpture Park with playgrounds
This is an open-air gallery, established back in 1977. Today, the 12-hectare park displays 116 sculptures created by 67 Lithuanian artists-sculptors. In 1820, the central city cemetery was opened in this area, so in the park, you can see a monument to those who were buried here until 1944. Also buried here are the rebels who died during the battle for Klaipėda’s annexation to Lithuania.
In the park, you will also find a monument-obelisk built in 1925. It is an authentic demarcation (border) post that once marked the boundary between Minor and Greater Lithuania. For visitors, the park is a great space to walk through the traces of Klaipėda’s 19th to early 20th-century history and to rest in the shelter of nature and art.
The youngest park visitors can also play and have fun in the newly built children’s playground.
Sea Park – near the summer stage with playgrounds
An interesting and noteworthy place is Seaside Park, located near the summer stage. Moreover, there are four educational trails here, each identified by different color markings on posts or trees. In addition, the surrounding forest is contrasting and dynamic, making the walk even more engaging. Sometimes walking paths intersect with cycling paths, so be extra attentive. In the park, you will also find children’s playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment.
Oak Grove Park with playgrounds
The advantages of this park are its large trees, greenery, an open space near a pond, pedestrian and bicycle paths. Most importantly – newly installed playgrounds and activity areas for children of various ages.
Trinyčiai Park with playgrounds
Trinyčiai Park is one of the most scenic parks in the city. In the 18th century, the manors of Joniškės and Būtsargiai were located in this area. An important element of the park’s landscape is the Mill Pond. It was once a branch of the Danė River, later dammed. In the park, you’ll find plenty of small bridges, benches, playgrounds, many trees, and ducks quacking in the pond.
Sąjūdis Park with playgrounds
Sąjūdis Park was established to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Lithuanian Reform Movement. The park covers 8.3 hectares. Pedestrian and bicycle paths have been built, as well as children’s playgrounds and sports courts. The best skateboarding and BMX track in Lithuania has been installed here, covering 1,000 square meters. There is also an amphitheater with an event space and ponds. In total, 276 different tree species have been planted in the park.

Litorina Trail – Dutchman’s Hat
Just a few kilometers past Giruliai, near Klaipėda, you’ll find the wonderful Litorina Trail. The trail is 5 km long. Here you can enjoy beautiful views, and there is plenty of information provided on signs along the way. Nearby is the charming Dutchman’s Cap – a place worth visiting every time you come to Klaipėda. From the Dutchman’s Cap, you can enjoy a sea view with steep cliffs and rocky beaches. The cliff is a great place to watch birds flying over the sea.
Klaipėda Old Town
While walking through Klaipėda’s Old Town, look for the city’s secret inhabitants: the magical mouse, the cat, the dragon, the ghost, the chimney sweep, and others. Set off on a sculpture and adventure hunt through the cozy old town.
Swing Bridge
The manually operated metal swing bridge over the castle canal was built in 1855. It is the only mechanism of its kind in Lithuania. The bridge is made of riveted iron and decorated with chains, which is why, before World War II, it was called the “Chain Bridge” (German: Kettenbrücke).
Interestingly, the bridge’s rotation mechanism is manual. Two people must turn the bridge so that ships can enter the former Klaipėda Castle moat through the channel below it. The bridge is “guarded” by a 2.4-meter-tall bronze sculpture called “The Black Ghost,” created based on Caspar Hennenberger’s late 16th-century legend “The Black Man of Memel.”
Theatre Square
This square is the heart of Klaipėda. It is a favorite gathering place for locals and their guests. Theatre Square attracts people like a magnet. Concerts, the Sea Festival, and other events take place here. It is said that as early as the 17th century, traveling actors would perform various plays in Theatre Square.
Beaches with children in Klaipėda
I Smiltynė Beach
Smiltynė is a great place for Klaipėda’s visitors who want to enjoy the fresh Baltic Sea and soft sandy dunes just a few minutes away from the Old Town – all you need to do is take the ferry across to the Curonian Spit. First Smiltynė Beach is wide and clean. It has volleyball, tennis, and football courts, a children’s playground, changing cabins, and toilets. The beach is adapted for people with disabilities. Safety is ensured by lifeguards and medical staff. The beach also has free Wi-Fi and phone charging stations.
II Smiltynė Beach
Fine sand covers II Smiltynė Beach, although it isn’t very wide. Locals sometimes call it a Portuguese-style beach. Fewer people come here, giving it the feeling of being by the ocean. From the nearby Hagens Dune, visitors can enjoy a great view of the sea. Here, you can easily combine seaside relaxation with active and educational activities. Both children and adults love visiting one of the most popular museums in Lithuania – the Lithuanian Sea Museum and Dolphinarium.
“Cyclists” beach in Smiltynė
A favorite spot for cyclists riding through the Curonian Spit is the so-called “Cyclists’ Beach.” Interestingly, maps do not mark this place, and people in Smiltynė unofficially call it by that name. Moreover, it is located about 7–8 km from the Old Ferry Terminal, near the boundary between municipalities.
Along the way to Cyclists’ Beach, you’ll also find picnic tables where you can stop for a break or enjoy a meal. However, there are no changing cabins, cafés, or lifeguards at the beach itself. Nevertheless, locals and visitors still call this remote beach iconic – it is wide, largely untouched by humans, and truly feels like a wild beach.
I Melnragė Beach and Northern Pier
I Melnragė Beach with the Northern Pier is popular among beachgoers. On sunny, calm days, visitors enjoy sunbathing on the beach, while on windy days, it attracts kite surfers and Klaipėda locals who want to admire the impressive waves. Moreover, the Northern Pier is a perfect spot to watch ships passing by, enjoy the sunset, and take stunning photos. In addition, the beach has soft sand, is clean, and stretches a long distance along the shore. The beach also offers changing cabins, toilets, lifeguards, and cafés. Furthermore, those dreaming of surfing can take lessons at the local surf school. Finally, the beach is easy to reach, which makes it especially popular with teenagers and young people.
II Melnragė Beach
People who enjoy active recreation usually choose this beach. Moreover, visitors can find children’s playgrounds, volleyball, handball, and sand basketball courts, as well as outdoor gym equipment, changing cabins, and showers. In addition, lifeguards monitor the beach, and a medical team works at the rescue post to ensure safety. Finally, the city has also adapted Second Melnragė Beach for people with mobility impairments, making it accessible to everyone.
Around this beach, pine forests dominate, and the atmosphere is calmer. There are significantly fewer residential and accommodation buildings nearby. Therefore, this clean and visitor-friendly beach is popular with both Klaipėda locals and seaside visitors.
Giruliai Beach
Vacationing families mostly choose Giruliai Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Klaipėda city. The beach has a lifeguard station, changing cabins, and several cafés. Moreover, one of the main attractions of Giruliai Beach is the wooden observation platform, built a few years ago. Visitors often climb up to enjoy the beach view, watch the sunset, or take beautiful photos.
