Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef, pork or a mixture of both
  • 1 pack of puff pastry or yeast dough
  • Cheddar or another cheese of your choice
  • Onion (optional)
  • Pickles
  • Tomato sauce, barbecue sauce, mustard or another sauce you like
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 egg for brushing
  • Sesame seeds

How to make

First, prepare the meat filling. I simply seasoned the meat with salt, shaped it into thin burger patties and pan-fried them.

Next, cut the pastry into squares. I made each side approximately the length of a handspan.

Then, prepare a sauce by mixing tomato sauce with mayonnaise.

If you like, caramelise the onions in a frying pan. Meanwhile, slice the pickles and any other vegetables you want to add.

Now, assemble the cheeseburger bombs. Layer cheese in the centre of each pastry square, followed by a meat patty. Add the sauce, pickles or other vegetables, and another layer of cheese. Finally, seal the edges tightly to create a closed pastry parcel.

I baked mine in the oven, but you can also use an air fryer.

Place the cheeseburger bombs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush them with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

The biggest advantage of these cheeseburger bombs is how easy they are to eat by hand. Best of all, nothing falls out!

You can easily adapt the recipe to suit your taste. For example, use chicken, add bacon, combine several types of cheese, or make mini versions for a children’s party.
