Druskininkai from a different angle: discover the resort from the water

We usually explore Druskininkai by walking through its parks, cycling, or hopping from one attraction to another. However, this time, we discovered the resort in a completely new way – from the water.

Druskininkai from a different angle: discover the resort from the water. We tried two very different water activities in Druskininkai, both perfect for families: pedaling water bikes on Lake Druskonis and taking a catamaran tour on the Nemunas River.

Pedal boating on Lake Druskonis

If you visit the center of Druskininkai with children, it’s hard to miss Lake Druskonis. This is one of the most beautiful green spaces in the resort, located right near the center. The lake covers about 7.5 hectares, and during the warm season you can not only stroll along the shore but also rent boats and water bikes.

Of course, we chose water bikes. It’s a simple activity that brings a lot of joy to kids – they can pedal themselves, choose the direction, get closer to the fountain, and simply enjoy the lake at their own pace.

If you’re lucky, just like we were, ducks will accompany your bike for part of the journey.

We also liked that you don’t need to leave the city center. You can easily include the water bike ride in your walk around Druskininkai – stop, pedal on the water, and then continue your day in the resort.

A completely different experience: catamaran tour on the Nemunas

While water bikes are a fun family activity, cruising on a catamaran along the Nemunas offers a unique way to discover Druskininkai. As you glide down the river, the city stays behind, revealing riverbanks, forests, and places you simply can’t see while walking in town.

We took a trip on the Hermis Port boat in Druskininkai. This is more than just a ride – it’s a one-hour guided excursion. The captain serves as a guide, sharing stories and legends about Druskininkai. From the water, you can see the riverbanks and famous resort sights. The captain knows a lot about Druskininkai and its notable residents. We finished the trip with lively Lithuanian music.

The boat is suitable even in the rain – it’s covered. Comfortable seats and blankets for cooler weather make the experience very cozy.

For kids, the boat itself is a highlight. The captain lets them try on the captain’s hat, and the bravest can even sit at the helm for a moment. We highly recommend it!

Druskininkai from the water: a new perspective

That’s what made this experience so interesting for us. Although we’ve visited Druskininkai many times and seen most of its famous spots, being on the water makes the familiar resort look completely different.

You can simply relax, listen to stories, and enjoy the views of the Nemunas. It’s a great option for families who want something slower-paced, with a sense of discovery.

Which water activity to choose with kids in Druskininkai?

We would say – both.

We recommend water bikes as a spontaneous, fun activity while walking around the center of Druskininkai, especially on a beautiful summer day when you want to get on the water and see the resort from the middle of Lake Druskonis.

Water bikes would be our choice for a fun and spontaneous activity while exploring the center of Druskininkai. On a beautiful summer day, it’s the perfect way to spend time on the water and see the resort from the middle of Lake Druskonis.

These two experiences reminded us that in Druskininkai, you don’t always have to look for something new. Sometimes, all it takes is seeing a familiar city from a totally different perspective – this time, from the water.
