Mabre Residence Hotel is an excellent choice for family stays in the heart of Vilnius Old Town. We chose this hotel for a special occasion – to celebrate a family event and remember our cozy, intimate wedding here 15 years ago. Now, we returned with our kids and enjoyed a wonderful stay.
Where history meets comfort
Monastery secret from the 16th century
The hotel building goes back centuries. It was first mentioned in 1506 in a letter from Grand Duke Alexander of Lithuania. Historians believe it was the first residence of the Orthodox Metropolitan in Lithuania. Around 1609, the church and all the buildings became the property of the Uniate Metropolitan. The Uniates managed the site until 1805. They built the grand metropolitan palace, which is now the main Mabre Residence Hotel building. Until World War II, the clergy and staff of the Church of the Most Holy Mother of God lived in the building. After the war, its purpose changed several times. During the Soviet era, one part became apartments, while the other was abandoned. After Lithuania regained independence, the buildings returned to the Orthodox Cathedral community. By then, only the foundations remained.
Restoration finished in November 1995. That same year, the complex at Maironio Street 13 was recognized as the most beautifully restored site in Vilnius Old Town. The thick walls, vaulted arches, and stone floors have preserved the Old Town’s true spirit. However, behind these historic walls, you’ll find everything a modern traveler needs – cozy rooms, a spa area, an excellent restaurant, and family amenities.

We spent an entire evening here, enjoying the lovely courtyard, a beautifully set table, and excellent food. In particular, we highly recommend the meat dishes. After all, the restaurant is known for its premium-quality meat, and the chefs prepare it to perfection.
