“ŽALI” playground and leisure space

In Balsiai, six years ago, a playground and leisure space was created near the IKI ŽALI shopping center. Here, the first pumptrack in Lithuania was built. Although there are now more pumptracks in Lithuania, this one remains Motiejus’ favorite. The “ŽALI” pumptrack has two parts. First, there is a smaller track for beginners, which is 33 meters long and covers 134 m², located next to the playground. Then, there is a larger track for all ages and skill levels, which stretches for 222 meters and covers 600 m².

What makes this pumptrack special is that it suits everyone, unlike typical skate parks. On this track, both children and adults can start riding, no matter their level or the type of wheels they use.

Next to the pumptrack, there is also a great playground with a soft surface. Because of that, even the youngest siblings will find something to do. We often come here to spend time together as a family. While Motiejus rides, we enjoy a coffee or eat takeaway wok on a bench. It is a really nice place.

Mažoji Lietuva (Little Lithuania) square

Mažoji Lietuva square is a completely new space in Vilnius. If you are looking for a calmer but still interesting place for a walk, it can become a really pleasant discovery. And we can guarantee that you will want to return here, just like we did.

Interestingly, when planning the square, the idea was to continue commemorating Mažoji Lietuva in Pilaitė. Therefore, one of the highlights is a small, partly planted sand dune. It is probably the most unique sandbox in Lithuania, both in shape and size. In addition, it is a great chance to talk with older children about Lithuanian regions and cultural heritage.

The children’s playground is small but has a rubber surface. Although there are no traditional swings or climbing frames, the climbing structure and games on the pavement still spark curiosity. It was fun both for two-year-old Paulė and seven-year-old Motiejus.

The square and the lawn are surrounded by a walking path, so you can enjoy a nice walk. Nearby, there are also basketball and football fields. In addition, you will find many benches and picnic tables. You can read more about this place in the article – New space in Vilnius for families: Mažoji Lietuva square.

If you visit this square, walk about 500 meters to Vilnius St. Joseph church. There, you will find a real highlight for children – the Pilaitė velo track. If your kids ride a bike or a scooter, make sure to stop there. They will really enjoy it.

Nemenčinė playground and family leisure space

Nemenčinė playground and family leisure space is one of the best places for active family time, and it is very close to Vilnius. Here, you will find a fenced playground with a soft surface, which is very important for families with younger children. There are many activities, climbing structures, nets for climbing, and swings. Most importantly, it suits children of different ages. In addition, this playground is quite unique and different from many playgrounds in Vilnius.

Next to the playground, there is a very large pumptrack, probably the largest in Vilnius. What makes this track special is that it suits everyone. Both children and adults can ride here, regardless of their level or equipment. You can come here if you or your child ride a bike, skateboard, roller skates, or a scooter. There is also a skate park nearby.

In this leisure area, you will also find a small sports complex. You can play basketball and other games there. The sports area is fenced and quite large. In addition, there are outdoor fitness machines nearby. It is very convenient that lighting is installed, so you can ride, play, or exercise even after dark. This is especially useful in autumn when it gets dark early.

Tauras hill park and leisure space with playground

This is the newest leisure space for families in Vilnius. At the end of 2024, the renovation of Tauro hill was completed. As part of the project, two playgrounds were installed in the park. They combine modern and natural design while adapting to the park’s terrain. In addition, an outdoor fitness area was installed on the upper terrace. The park also includes more spaces that you can reach by paths without stairs from Pamėnkalnio, Tauro, V. Kudirkos, and V. Mykolaičio-Putino streets.

The playground at the top of Tauro hill has a soft surface and looks very modern and interesting. It is great that it feels innovative and different from traditional playgrounds. In fact, there are no similar playgrounds like this in Vilnius. Although it is officially designed for children from 5 years old, even younger kids will find activities here. There is also a similar playground in the middle of the hill.

Lietaus (Rain)/Šeškinė park and nearby leisure area

Lietaus park near Ozo and Siesikų streets is a great place for families. Here, you will find walking and cycling paths, a playground, benches with tables, and quiet relaxation areas.

We especially like a small, beautifully arranged space on the other side of the park. Even though it is located in the city, it feels like being outside the city. There is white sand, which is perfect for children to play, a pond with ducks, and a forest where squirrels run around. There are also outdoor furniture pieces made from pallets. It is a great place for a picnic, and children can play freely.

This leisure space is not only enjoyable but also interesting. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it has the largest rainwater treatment facility in Lithuania, along with a storage reservoir for cleaned water. Interestingly, the reservoir can hold 20,000 cubic meters of water. In case of heavy rain, it would fill up in 42 minutes. The maximum depth of the reservoir is 4 meters.

Perkūnas square

Perkūnas square is a new leisure space opened last year for families in Vilnius. Here, you will find one of the most modern playgrounds in the city. It is especially nice that the entire playground has a soft surface, which makes it perfect for younger children.

There is also a very fun and truly unique play element that you will not see in other playgrounds – a ring where you can sit and flip upside down.

In addition, you will find basketball and football fields, outdoor fitness equipment, a table tennis table, a chess board, picnic tables, and a quiet relaxation area with hammocks. Around the area, there is a circular track for roller skates and scooters. If you arrive by car, keep in mind that parking can be difficult, as there are residential buildings nearby.

Šnipiškės square

This is a new leisure space that opened last year in Vilnius, where you can spend time with your family. It is located near the city center, in an 84-are area between Kintų and Giedraičių streets.

This space serves as a community outdoor event area where you can meet friends. There is a basketball court and, most importantly, a playground with a soft surface. In addition, there is a very original walking path bridge and terraces with seating areas. Our children especially liked the small water stream. It is most convenient to arrive by public transport or on foot, as parking is paid.

Neris oxbow valley and Linkmenų street leisure space

This is a great place for family leisure time. A previously neglected area has been newly and beautifully restored. Now, you can walk or cycle here, as there are dedicated bike paths. In addition, you will find sports fields and outdoor fitness equipment.

The park also includes a playground, a multifunctional sports field with outdoor fitness equipment, a pétanque field, and green areas for quiet relaxation.

Leisure space and playground in Grigiškės

For many people, it may seem that Grigiškės is not part of Vilnius. However, it is currently a district of Vilnius city. Moreover, you can reach it quickly and easily by car from the city center.

The new space and playground in Grigiškės were highly anticipated by residents. It opened next to the Church of the Holy Spirit in Grigiškės. In this public space, you will find a community gathering square, a playground, quiet relaxation areas, improved walking paths, and benches. It is especially nice that residents themselves contributed to planting the area. During a community effort, they planted more than a thousand shrubs together.

This place is ideal for families with both younger and older children. Older kids can spend active time for free in one of the largest skate and roller parks in Vilnius. In addition, there are three modern basketball courts nearby, as well as volleyball courts and various fitness equipment.

For younger children, there are two playgrounds. Next to them, you will find a large lawn for picnics. Nearby, there is also a sakura park and many cafés.
