Best playgrounds in Kaunas
Kovo 11 (March 11) park: a new leisure space for families with an impressive playground
On May 29 a new park, March 11th Park, opened right next to the Girstutis swimming pool, across the street. The place is perfect for families, especially those with children. The playground here looks very different from most others. It is built from wood and designed in geometric shapes. Children can climb structures, crawl through a rope tunnel, and slide down a slide. A little further away there is a hill designed like a climbing wall. Children enjoy climbing up and going down again. From the top you can see the whole park, so parents can bring a blanket, sit on the hill, and watch their children exploring the park.
The park also has another fun stop with woven swings, hammocks, and blocks of different sizes. The blocks are more suitable for older children who can jump from one to another. The park itself is very spacious and surrounded by trees, which creates a safe environment for children. Even though there is a road nearby, the park lies slightly lower, which separates it from the traffic.
There is also a fountain area with moving water jets. On a warm summer day children can run barefoot through the water. The environment is clean and well maintained, and there are toilets nearby.
↩︎ Back to listKaunas lagoon playground
A very fun playground is located right next to Kaunas Lagoon. It has an impressive tower and slide similar to the one in Kalniečiai Park. If children have already tried the playground in Kalniečiai, they will enjoy this one as well. Nature, fresh air, the lagoon, and entertainment create a perfect family outing. Nearby you will also find Pažaislis Monastery, another place loved by Kaunas residents.

If you start from the monastery and follow the forest paths, you will easily reach the yacht club. Along the way you can enjoy a walk, collect your daily steps, and admire the lagoon views. It becomes a much richer experience than simply driving there by car. When you reach the yacht club you will find another small playground. It is worth mentioning if you plan a route like this: playground near Kaunas Lagoon – Pažaislis Monastery – walk to the yacht club. There is also a restaurant next to the yacht club, so children can play while adults have lunch or coffee.
↩︎ Back to listLampėdžiai beach playground
If you plan to swim at Lampėdžiai beach, keep in mind that there is also a new playground nearby. Children can play barefoot because the playground stands right next to the water. The sand is soft, warm, and pleasant. While children are playing, parents can enjoy the sunshine by the water.
The playground is suitable for children of different ages, and the activities are only a few steps away from the beach. Therefore it is easy to combine playing, swimming, and relaxing in one place.

Neris riverside park playground
Kaunas has expanded Neris Riverside Park with not only a new playground but an entire leisure area. This is also good news for parents because there is a basketball court and even a table tennis zone nearby.
Children will find new swings, slides, climbing structures, and a safe environment right by the Neris river.
↩︎ Back to listNemunas island playground
The Nemunas Island playground can definitely be included among the best playgrounds, especially after its recent renovation. The whole leisure area now includes five zones: four interactive football goals, a memory training game, a playground for children, a sports area with new fitness equipment, and a large climbing net.
Not long ago there was only a small playground here. Now the area has turned into a full leisure space where both children and adults can find something to do. The surroundings are beautifully arranged, and the paths are convenient for bicycles, scooters, or roller skates. In front of you opens a wonderful panorama of the city. Nearby stands the recently opened museum “Science Island”, which welcomed visitors in December 2024. However, the most unique feature here is the memory training game zone, where visitors can move, think, and have fun at the same time.
↩︎ Back to listSantaka playgrounds
There are also two playgrounds in Santaka, both located in a beautiful area with wonderful views. When you arrive here you will almost always see people doing different activities. Some run, others ride bicycles, walk, or watch hot air balloons rising above the city.

The first playground is located near the castle. It was recently renovated and now offers a completely new space. When Kaunas starts renovating playgrounds, the results appear quickly because children always wait impatiently for new places to play. This playground is a perfect stop while walking through Santaka. Children can play while parents sit down and enjoy the view.
A little further away near the stadium there is another playground that many children find even more interesting. It is divided into two zones. One area has traditional playground equipment, while the other features a large rope climbing structure called “Python”, which resembles a long bridge. Children climb and balance along the structure. When they finish the course, they can enjoy a fun slide down a special surface.
↩︎ Back to listKalniečiai park playgrounds
Kalniečiai Park is a favorite place not only for residents who live nearby but also for families from other parts of the city. Families spend time here riding bicycles, roller skates, or scooters. However, many also come specifically for the playgrounds because there are now several of them. Of course this attraction is mainly for children, but when children are happy and busy, parents enjoy the moment as well.
For many years Kalniečiai Park has had a playground loved by families. There are interesting swings, climbing areas, and playhouses suitable for both younger and older children. Recently the park surprised visitors again with a new playground. Its main attraction is a tall tower with a high slide.
Besides playgrounds the park also offers other active areas. One section is designed for BMX bikes, roller skates, and scooters. Nearby there is also a parkour zone for those who want to run, climb, and test their abilities. This area is especially popular with older children.

Playground in Ąžuolynas (oak wood) park
Another very popular place is Oak Grove Park. It is a large walking park located next to the Lithuanian Zoo. The playground here is loved not only by children but also by parents. Spending time surrounded by nature feels relaxing. There is no traffic noise, no busy streets, and the environment feels calm and safe. While children are playing, parents can rest and talk.
The playground offers many activities. Children can try swings, three slides of different heights, a fun tunnel, a rope for sliding down while holding on with hands, and several other games.
↩︎ Back to listDraugystės (Friendship) park playground
This place is well known to families from nearby neighborhoods. People often come here to spend time with children or simply for a walk. You will often see mothers walking with strollers while babies fall asleep. Next to the playground there are tables with benches, so while children play, parents can enjoy a picnic. Nearby there is a green meadow where you can spread a blanket and spend time outdoors.
Most importantly, the playground has recently been renovated. Now there are many activities, so children run from one corner to another without stopping.
On one side there is a hill with a tube slide children love. This zone also includes swings, climbing structures, and a small trampoline.
Parents who sit on a bench soon need to move again because children quickly run to the other side of the playground where another slide waits. Both slides are included in the list of the most interesting slides for children in Lithuania.
The second slide is unique because children cannot reach it easily. Many slides are designed with stairs, but here children need to climb a rope net to reach the top. It might look challenging at first, yet once they succeed they want to repeat the experience again.
It may sound like a large playground where parents need to run after children, but there are many benches around the area. From almost every spot parents can see children playing.
Playground is located deeper inside the park, away from the street. The environment feels calm and safe, especially for families with younger children. If you walk further through Draugystės park you will also find leisure spaces for adults. Deeper in the forest area there is a smaller playground, which works as a short stop during a longer walk.

Panemunės Šilas playground
This playground is worth visiting not only because of the equipment but mainly because of its location. Panemunė Forest is one of the most beautiful natural places in Kaunas. At first it may remind visitors of Vingis Park in Vilnius, but after walking a little longer you will notice that the surroundings here feel even more natural.
Even though the park is not far from the city, it has the atmosphere of real nature. Well maintained paths wind through tall trees and eventually lead to the Nemunas River where the playground is located.
This place works perfectly as a walking destination and also as a picnic spot by the river. A little further away you can spread a blanket, spend the day in nature, and even swim. There is also a changing cabin nearby. While parents relax, children can play in the playground located right next to the meadow.
The path along the river is suitable both for peaceful walks and for cycling, riding scooters, or using other wheels.
We personally love this place because it offers so much nature. The bridge leading to Panemunė Forest passes under railway tracks. It is always interesting to watch trains passing above. Right next to the bridge there is also a viewpoint with a beautiful panorama.
↩︎ Back to listSantarvės park playground
Just as residents of Dainava and Žaliakalnis have Oak Grove Park and Kalniečiai residents enjoy Kalniečiai Park, families in Šilainiai can enjoy a spacious playground surrounded by nature in Concord Park. The playground was recently renovated and now offers even more entertainment. A tower with a slide was added. It is not as high as the one in Kalniečiai Park, but it is still very fun.
↩︎ Back to listRomainiai street playground
This playground stands in a forest area in Romainiai and belongs to the list of newly built playgrounds in Kaunas. The renovated space now offers even more activities than before. Both toddlers and older children can enjoy spending time here.
↩︎ Back to listSoboras square playground
The playground in Soboras Square has a good soft surface, although it can sometimes be windy. Right next to it you will find the restaurant “Piano Piano”. Parents can sit there, relax, and watch their children playing. A short walk along Laisvės Avenue leads to another restaurant called “Casa del Pasta”, which is perfect for pasta lovers.

Musical theatre playground
After walking along Laisvės Avenue you will find a small but very charming playground next to the Musical Theatre. It is located right in the city center. Therefore if the idea of walking through the city does not excite children, you can promise them that a playground awaits at the end of the walk. This promise often works better than ice cream.
↩︎ Back to listRamybės (peace) park playground
In Peace Park you will notice a large and colorful playground from afar. It belongs to the nearby school, so the main gates are sometimes locked. However the entrance from the school side is always open.
There are many activities for children, and the playground stands under the shade of trees. Even on hot days it remains a pleasant place for both children and parents.
↩︎ Back to listMega shopping center playground
There is also a playground next to the Mega shopping center. It has a soft surface, and children enjoy it just as much as indoor playrooms.
Inside the Mega shopping center you can also find a slide that belongs to the list of the most interesting slides in Lithuania.
